What “Prague 4” means here

Prague 4 is confusing, because the name is used for two different areas:

  • The municipal district Prague 4 covers Nusle, Pankrác, Michle, Krč, Braník, Podolí and Záběhlice (including Spořilov). It is one of the largest municipal districts in Prague and is mostly made up of housing estates.
  • The administrative district Prague 4, which we use to group clinics, is larger. It also includes Prague 11 (Chodov and Háje), Prague 12 (Modřany and Kamýk), Kunratice, Libuš, Šeberov and Újezd.

So a clinic whose address says “Praha 11” or “Praha 12” appears on this page. Prague 4 has more clinics in our directory than any other district, partly because it covers such a large area and so many residents.

Where the clinics are

The clinics in Prague 4 are spread across several separate areas, each with its own transport links:

  • Pankrác, Budějovická and Michle: an office and residential area along metro line C, with clinics near Pankrác, Budějovická and on the streets towards Michle.
  • Chodov and Háje (Prague 11): large housing estates at the southern end of line C, with clinics close to the Chodov, Opatov and Háje stations.
  • Modřany and Kamýk (Prague 12): south of the river bend. There is no metro here; trams run along Modřanská, and buses run to the line C stations.
  • Spořilov, Braník and Krč: residential areas served mainly by trams and buses, including clinics in local polyclinics.

Because the district is so big, choose a clinic near where you live or work, or near a line C station on your route. A clinic “in Prague 4” can be more than 8 km from another.

Getting to a dentist in Prague 4

Metro line C runs through the whole district, with stations at Vyšehrad, Pražského povstání, Pankrác, Budějovická, Kačerov, Roztyly, Chodov, Opatov and Háje. It is about 10 minutes from Budějovická to Muzeum in the centre. Trams serve Pankrác, Nusle, Braník and Modřany (stops include Pankrác, Spořilov and Sídliště Modřany), and buses connect the housing estates with the metro. If you plan to drive, ask the clinic about parking.

Choosing a dentist in Prague 4

  • Languages. A number of Prague 4 clinics, including some in office developments around Pankrác and Chodov, state that they treat patients in English. Many local practices on the housing estates work in Czech only. Use the English speaking filter above.
  • Insurance. Prague 4 has many clinics with contracts with Czech public health insurers, including VZP. This matters if you are in the public system or are using a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Some clinics are fully private and don’t work with any insurer. Each profile says which, where the clinic has stated it.
  • New patients. Several clinics here say they are accepting new patients. One says it is not, so always check before you rely on it.
  • Opening hours. Some clinics open before 8:00 or stay open until 19:00 or later on certain days. The profiles show exact hours.

Emergency dentist in Prague 4

Prague 4 has its own public dental emergency service for adults: Pražská pohotovost at the Thomayer University Hospital site, Vídeňská 800/5 in Krč. It provides urgent care in the evening, at weekends and on public holidays. You don’t need to be registered, and there is a standard fee of CZK 90. Children are treated at Motol University Hospital in Prague 5. Hours change, so check the emergency dentist page first. Several private clinics in Prague 4 also say they offer urgent appointments during the day. For severe swelling, or difficulty breathing or swallowing, call 155 or 112.
