What “Prague 9” covers

As with several outer districts, the name Prague 9 covers two different areas:

  • The municipal district Prague 9 covers Vysočany, Prosek and Hrdlořezy, and parts of Libeň, Střížkov, Hloubětín and Malešice. The O2 Arena, between Libeň and Vysočany, is here.
  • The administrative district Prague 9, which we use to group clinics, is much larger. It also includes Prague 14 (Černý Most, Kyje and Hostavice), Prague 18 (Letňany), Čakovice, Prague 19 (Kbely, Satalice and Vinoř), Prague 20 (Horní Počernice) and Prague 21 (Újezd nad Lesy and neighbouring areas).

So a clinic with a “Praha 14”, “Praha 18” or “Praha 20” address appears on this page. The area is mostly residential: large housing estates, family-house suburbs and growing new developments along the metro lines.

Where the clinics are

  • Vysočany and Prosek: the largest cluster, along Sokolovská and around the Českomoravská, Vysočanská and Prosek metro stations. Several branches of one local clinic group are in this area.
  • Letňany (Prague 18): near the northern end of metro line C.
  • Černý Most and Hostavice (Prague 14): housing estates at the eastern end of metro line B.
  • Horní Počernice (Prague 20): a suburb on the eastern edge of Prague, served by buses and trains rather than the metro.

Getting to a dentist in Prague 9

  • Metro line B runs east through Českomoravská, Vysočanská, Kolbenova, Hloubětín, Rajská zahrada and Černý Most. Vysočanská is about 10 minutes from Florenc.
  • Metro line C runs north through Střížkov, Prosek and Letňany.
  • Trams run along Sokolovská through Vysočany, and buses connect the suburbs with the metro.

Distances in the outer parts of Prague 9 can be large. Choose a clinic close to home or on your metro line, and check the nearest stop on each profile.

Choosing a dentist in Prague 9

  • Languages. A relatively high share of Prague 9 clinics state that they treat patients in English, and several also list Ukrainian and Russian. Some also list Slovak, Arabic, Persian or Greek. Use the language filter above to find a clinic in your language.
  • Insurance. Most clinics we list in Prague 9 say they have contracts with Czech public insurers, including VZP. This makes the district a good place to look if you are in the public system, or if you are an EU visitor using the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which is only accepted at contracted dentists.
  • New patients. Many Prague 9 clinics say they are accepting new patients, more than in the central districts. That status changes, so confirm it when you call.
  • Hours. Some clinics here open from 7:00 and stay open into the evening, which suits commuters.

Emergency dentist in Prague 9

There is no public dental emergency service in Prague 9. For adults, the nearest are in Prague 1 (Spálená street and Na Františku), about 15–20 minutes from Vysočany by metro. Children are treated at Motol University Hospital in Prague 5. You don’t need to be registered, and there is a standard fee of CZK 90. A few Prague 9 clinics say they offer urgent appointments during opening hours. Use the emergency filter above. See emergency dentist in Prague for current hours, and call 155 or 112 for severe swelling or difficulty breathing.

Registering with a dentist

Outer districts are often the easiest places in Prague to find a dentist accepting new registered patients. Our guide on how to register with a dentist in the Czech Republic explains the process, and how Czech health insurance covers dental care explains what’s covered.
