About Prague 8

Prague 8 runs north-east from the edge of the city centre. It includes Karlín, most of Libeň, Kobylisy, Bohnice and Čimice, and parts of the New Town, Žižkov and Střížkov. The administrative district, which we use to group clinics, also includes Ďáblice, Dolní Chabry and Březiněves on the northern edge of the city.

The southern part of the district has changed the most. Karlín, between the Vltava and Vítkov hill, used to be industrial and has been redeveloped with offices and apartments. Libeň, further east, is a mix of older apartment blocks, offices and new housing. The northern part (Kobylisy, Bohnice and Čimice) is mainly housing estates.

Where the clinics are

  • Karlín: several clinics are on or near Sokolovská street and around Křižíkova, close to the offices. Some, including branches of larger clinic groups, are aimed at people who work nearby.
  • Libeň and Invalidovna: clinics along Sokolovská further east, around Palmovka and Invalidovna, and in the Bulovka area of Libeň.
  • The northern estates: Kobylisy, Bohnice and Čimice have fewer clinics in our directory so far.

Getting to a dentist in Prague 8

Two metro lines serve Prague 8:

  • Line B runs under Karlín and Libeň, with stations at Florenc, Křižíkova, Invalidovna and Palmovka.
  • Line C runs north through Florenc, Kobylisy and Ládví, linking the northern estates with the centre.

Trams run along Sokolovská through Karlín and Libeň (stops include Karlínské náměstí, Palmovka and Bulovka) and up to Kobylisy. From Křižíkova it is about five minutes to Náměstí Republiky in the centre, so Karlín clinics are also convenient if you work in Prague 1.

Choosing a dentist in Prague 8

  • Languages. Prague 8 has a good share of clinics that state they treat patients in English, especially in Karlín and Libeň, where several clinic groups have branches. Some also list Slovak, French, Spanish, Ukrainian or Russian. Use the language filter above.
  • Insurance. The clinics here are a mix of practices with contracts with Czech public insurers, including VZP, and private clinics that don’t work with public insurers. If you’re in the public system, or are an EU visitor with a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), choose a contracted clinic. The EHIC is only accepted there.
  • New patients. Several Prague 8 clinics say they are accepting new patients. Ask how long you’ll wait for a registration appointment.
  • Hours. Some clinics open early or stay open into the evening on certain days, which suits office workers. The profiles show exact hours.

Emergency dentist in Prague 8

There is no public dental emergency service in Prague 8. For adults, the nearest are in Prague 1: Na Františku, across the river from Karlín, and the polyclinic on Spálená street. Both can be reached by metro or tram in about 15 minutes. Children are treated at Motol University Hospital in Prague 5. You don’t need to be registered, and there is a standard fee of CZK 90. Check the emergency dentist page for current hours. If swelling makes it hard to breathe or swallow, call 155 or 112.

Registering with a dentist

If you live or work in Karlín or Libeň, registering with a nearby dentist makes regular check-ups easier to keep up. Our guide on how to register with a dentist in the Czech Republic explains how, and how Czech health insurance covers dental care explains the costs.
